*vulnerable share & long-ish post* Carpe diem in the spirit of gratitude for the thankful Thursday series! Today I’m thankful for the times past where I was able to tend more diligently to fitness and health. I’m grateful that God gave me the grace to focus on it and prepare for a time where I could not. Read below for a little more details and always know I’m a DM away if this is something personal for you too. “Every pregnancy is different” I’ve heard it. I’ve even said it. Now I realize that I didn’t truly believe it. My first pregnancy was actually perfect. So I expected the second one to be about the same. For about a year now, I’ve been in a small accountability group with close friends specifically around fitness goals. When I found out that I was pregnant, I set a goal for myself - I would RUN through this pregnancy. Last pregnancy, I did a lot of Kayla Itsines @sweat program. At 6 weeks pregnant when my pants legitimately could not fit, it was notable strange. Even more notable was a following experience (I won’t share in detail) that led me to an emergency doctor visit. Results: I have an extremely rare condition. My overall health and baby boy are fine - thank you God. No running though - no extensive fitness exertion. So, today I dwell on the grateful side of the equation. I’m thankful for the times when I could and did work out. They have made me stronger for today, when I cannot. Side note - REST is just as important for health and this is my current workout focus.

Barbell Bent Over Row A great exercise for building the upper back, specifically the lats, traps & rhomboids. This is an exercise I didn’t utilise enough when I first started training as the more glamorous exercises to me were bench press & bicep curls 😂. Problem with this is it can lead to tight pecs and cause the shoulders to internally rotate, creating bad posture and putting you at risk of injury. Here are 5 different Barbell Row variations, all hitting the same muscles but some at slightly different angles creating a different stimulus in the muscle. BENT OVER ROW - the classic and maybe the best if you do it correct. Uses the core stabilizers, the glutes and hammys alot more to hold the position strict throughtout the movement. PENDLAY ROW TBAR ROW PRONE ROW CHEST SUPPORTED CAMBERED BAR ROW. A few different variations to mix it up every now and then but the moral of the story is make sure you are building that back and not just focussing on those tight tshirt muscles💪
